This is the latest rewrite of my history and I am wondering what you think of it? Any constructive critasism appreciated.
Tinorfithiel is a Elven girl who was born in a village across the Lune. Her parents were Elven rangers, they ranged around the village and into the foothills keeping the village safe and helping the rangers. Tinorfithiel was left at home with her older brother and they were looked after by their aunt. Tinorfithiel had a happy childhood and enjoyed many children’s games, she also enjoyed the weapons training she was given.
When Tinorfithiel was only 8 years old, her mother and father and her brother who was out on his first patrol, were ambushed by some orcs’ raiding party and killed, leaving Tin an orphan in the care of her aunt. No-one knew what to do with her as she was supposed to be learning the lore of the rangers from her parents and family and other rangers, but now she wasn’t a rangers child, she was just a child. Tin though swore that she would grow up and avenge her family by joining the rangers and continuing the work of her family by killing all creatures of evil.
With that sworn oath Tin continued her weapons training and became adept with the sword, the bow and with both daggers and throwing knives, she also became good at unarmed combat. The village didn’t know what to make of her and as such she became a bit of an outsider, neither a villager nor a Ranger.
She lived with her aunt, and learnt the way of the ranger, and all the lore that goes with it till she reached her 15th year, this was the age at which the young Rangers were taken out on routine patrols with little risk to help them learn how to put all the knowledge and skill they had learnt into practise in real life. Normally it would have been her family that escorted Tin on her first patrols till the age of 20 when she would become a full fledged Ranger. As Tin had no-one who could show her, her weapons training had always been done at the side of the other Rangers, the teachers after trying to persuade her to settle down to village life with her aunt had taught her as it was obvious she was going to learn anyway, but the weapons trainers were Elves that had been hurt and were waiting for their wounds to heal before going back to the wild. AS she had no help she went alone, and wandered round in the wild for the fortnight that was the normal patrol time. She went alone, hunting her food, sleeping in shelters she built, and generally wandering around the countryside.
Her first few patrols were off this sort, nothing exciting happening and were quite routine, more food gathering for the village rather than patrolling. It wasn’t until her 4th patrol that anything of any note happened, she happened across a lone orc, scouting for his raiding band. For her untested skills it was quite a fight and it left her with some minor cuts that luckily due to the lore of plants that she had learnt she was able to clean and bind and so make the wounds unable to get infected.
She returned after that patrol and told the chief of the village what had happened, he then sent her out with some experienced Rangers to avert the orc raiding party and to see whether what Tin had said was true. The group found the orc she had killed and found the band he was from, they then set up a battle plan and neutralised the orcs.
When they returned to the village Tin was offered a place in the Rangers and gratefully accepted it. She now went on proper patrols, and had others with her to help, though due to force of habit and the way she had lived for so many years Tin found herself having problems interacting with her companions and was still in a way apart.
Tin went out on these scheduled patrols until she returned from one patrol to find her aunt had tired of Middle Earth and was going to the havens and across the sea. At this point she lost her last connection to the village, and could see no reason to stay and run patrols with them, she knew enough to survive on her own in the wild and due to her separateness from the rest of the village was used to being alone.
Later that day Tin packed up her belongings and went to see the Chief of the village and told him that she wanted to go out into the wild and stay out in the wild; the Chief knowing that Tin was truly happier out of the village in the wild, searching out the creatures of darkness and killing them, let her go. He did tell her first that if she ever needed help or a refuge to remember the village and come there for help. So with no further ado Tin set off into the wild to begin her life as a full time Ranger girl wandering the wild and keeping the ordinary folk safe.
Tin wandered in the wild and journeyed and travelled, always with an eye out to help the weak, sometimes she’d help guard merchants trains, sometimes hire herself out to a village to destroy a local fiend. Through the years she kept herself mainly whole skinned, fed and her equipment travel stained but whole and in good condition.
As the years went by Tin noticed that there seemed to be more evil creatures around and more pain and suffering, she also noticed more bands of people forming to do something about it, but for all that was done there was still more evil to destroy. At this time Tin started to realise that it was becoming dangerous for her to be alone in the wild, the bands of orcs and other creatures of evil were growing larger and after a few near escapes from death at the hands of these bands Tin realised if she was to continue her work of destroying these creatures she was going to have to join a group.
She didn’t like the idea as she was a solitary soul but necessity called for her to stop going her own way and to join. Tin thought carefully over the groups she knew, and one blazed out in her mind, one she had fought with before over the years, The Circle Of Peace, she had fought with them when they had been newly formed and she had needed help and over the years many other occasions had risen that she had helped them and them her, always pursuing similar aims. Looking back over those times Tin realised that there had to be some kind of fate, and prosperous omen for her to join them; after all she already knew the group. She had heard though that most of the group had died and split, but that it had recently reformed and stronger than before. After making up her mind to join Tin wasted no time in heading off through the wild following the rumours and tales of the bands passing.
When she was nearing the position she thought to find The Circle Of Peace she heard the grunt of orc voices and fearing a large band had taking the Kinship she hid and listened. Over her years of hunting them she had managed to gain some understanding of the tones and some of their grunting language, so listening carefully she managed to get the idea that this group were just out looking for a village to raid, she heard no talk of fighting or food. After gathering this Tin hurried off to try and find The Circle Of Peace, there were way too many orcs in the band for her to deal with herself.
After searching for about half a day through the woodland she found the kinship by the smell of their wood fire. Calling out from the bushes surrounding the camp she called “Hail the camp, it is but I Tinorfithiel, elvish ranger and friend” Some of her old companions from previous years were there in front of the fire and they welcomed her and following the rules of hospitality offered her water and meat. Tin accepted gratefully as she hadn’t stopped to eat during her hunt for them. On of those who had known her from previous times then asked “What might we do for you Tinorfithiel, it is ever said that you only seek company for a reason” Smiling at his knowledge of her Tin said “There is an orc band a quarter of a days march from here, I would like your help in defeating them and ridding the world of their evil” The Circle of Peace immediately agreed and they set off, the set their plans and slew the orc band, suffering only minor injuries from the fighting.
When they returned to their camp, Tinorfithiel with them, they sat and drank to their victory for that battle, then as adventurers tend to do when they haven’t met for a while they started comparing news. After sitting with them and fighting with them, Tinorfithiel decided that the omens were definitely good for her joining with them, and so she asked, “as you have heard me say, the wild lands are getting ever more dangerous, so dangerous in fact that it is no longer safe for me to travel as I have been wont to, therefore I ask, may I join your group and work with you toward our common goal?”<br>
