Personnaly, I'm not a fan of the new name. I liked MEO, it was short, light-hearted and catchy. And to me, this game will always be MEO. LOTRO seems quite dreary and depressing to me. Plus, it sound like "Loto" (the national lottery) which has a really annoying woman on their adverts so that's another negative for me

I really don't like the name change. MEO was much better in my opinion. Much better. Now it will just drag in the movie fans and not the book fans. ELI! What happen to the other smilies?

I completely agree with Mil. I think that now the strictly movie-based fans will be attracted to the game, which is not neccessarily what we want (i.e. the mainstream annoying teenage online player) Although from Turbine's point of view, it was a good move for them so I guess we're stuck with it.

I can see why they changed the name, but I really do prefer MEO, anyone who knows anything much about LotR would know about ME, now LotRO SoA is going to attract more and more movie only fans who have not intrest in anything other than the LotR, no intrest in ME >< Oh well, I'm still going to call it MEO, maybe if enough of us don't bother to call it LotRO the might be nice and change it back

I've been thinking of this in terms of our recruitment policy. Do we really want the type of power gamers that the new name will attract in the kinship? Do you think we should create some new rule that means only tolkienists can join? ie. people who have at least read/attempted to read the book? Or is that being too strict?

That might be a little too strict I think. It would be nice if they had read/attempted to read the books, but if not, I think that would be okay. We can't be too strict in our policies or we will not attract anyone to the game. Maybe the have not read the books, but intend to soon. Not a good idea in my opinion. Obviously in the past we have had applicants who have not read the books. Most have been fine, until we denied them, that is. Who knows...maybe currents members have not read the books yet...

The books was just one idea of how we could possibly attempt to filter out some of the power gamers But I suppose our triel period should do that anyway

Yeah...we can usually tell by their MEO posts and posts here if they are just power gamers or true fans. The week (or so) trial period will work out fine.

Yeah, in my opinion as long as they are nice people I personally don't mind if they are power gamers, though it certainly is nicer if they know at least some Tolkien lore.
Anyway, normally our week trial lets us know who's nice or not, and really thats the best way (at least in my opinion, lol).

MEO was a much better name compared to LOTRO and as someone said before it is very "depressining" in a way
